She really liked the Doctor and she let him go because she knew that nothing was ever going to happen. She spared herself the pain and she moved on. She recognized that her tedious, dysfunctional family was more important than gallivanting through time and space. She had a job, ambitions. She had a task and she was sure as hell going to get it done. Saving people.

Martha was never a replacement for Rose. No companion is a replacement for their predecessor. 

She doesn’t put up with any one’s shit. She will get shit done.

I love how Martha gets on with Donna. She just knows that that’s what the Doctor does, he changes peoples lives.
